Hammer Unions:Quick Overview
Hammer unions are widely used in oil & gas and high-pressure piping systems for their ability to provide fast, secure
connections in flow lines that require frequent assembly and disassembly.
A hammer union consists of three parts:a male sub.female sub. and a hammer nut.Tightening the nut pulls the connection together to create a pressure-tight seal.
FlG(Figure) Numbers
FIG numbers identify the pressure rating and service application:
FIG 50/100-Low-pressure services(water,mud,air)
FIG 602/1002-Medium-pressure oilfield applications
FIG 1502-High-pressure services(fracturing,cementing,well testing)
Higher FIG numbers generally mean higher pressure capability.
Types of Hammer Unions
Butt Weld Type- Welded to the pipeline for permanent, high-pressure applications
Threaded Type -Easy to install and remove, ideal for temporary or low-to-medium pressure lines
Choosing the correct FIG and connection type is key to safe and reliable operations.
